CHAPTER XII. PUBLIC PROPERTYCHAPTER XII. PUBLIC PROPERTY\ARTICLE 1. CEMETERY

The city heretofore jointed with Sterling Township in purchasing Cottonwood Park Cemetery, except certain lots, for burial purpose, and also an adjoining unplatted tract of land described as follows: Beginning at the northeast corner of the southwest one-fourth of the southeast one-fourth of the southeast one-fourth of Section 16, Township 21, Range 8, thence west 17 rods, thence south 40 rods, thence east 17 rods, thence north 40 rods, thence east 17 rods, thence north 40 rods to place of beginning, containing four and one-fourth acres more or less, all in Section 16, Township 21, Range 8 in Rice County, Kansas. The unplatted tract of land shall be platted and the newly platted tract and the old cemetery known as Cottonwood Park Cemetery shall be designated as Sterling Community Cemetery.

Sterling Community Cemetery shall be under the control and management of a board of trustees composed of the mayor of this city and the trustee of the township, and the treasurer of the city, as by law provided.

The city shall cooperate with Sterling Township in maintaining the cemetery, and the cost of maintaining the same shall be equally borne by the city and township.
