ARTICLE 1. GENERAL PROVISIONS

The election shall be conducted in all respects as provided in the laws of the state. Polls shall be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the day of the election or as otherwise provided under K.S.A. 25-106 or other applicable statute.

The places of holding city elections shall be determined by the county election officer as provided in K.S.A. 25-2701 or other applicable statute.

City elections shall be called and notice given as provided in K.S.A. Chapter 25, or other applicable statute.

Candidates for city elective office shall file such candidacy as provided in K.S.A. 25-2110 or other applicable statute.

When the polls are closed and the ballot counted, the returns shall be made and canvassed as provided in K.S.A. 25-2111 or other applicable statute.

Election judges and clerks shall be appointed by the county election officer as provided in K.S.A. 25-2801 or other applicable statute.

(a)   The date of the commencement of the term of office for elected officials of the City of Sterling, Kansas shall be on the first Monday of January, following the general election for city officials in November of the preceding year, unless such date would fall on a legal holiday, in which case the term of office shall commence on the first regularly scheduled meeting of the City Commission in January.

(b)   Every person elected or appointed to city office, before entering upon the duties of such office, shall take and subscribe an oath or affirmation as specified in K.S.A. 54-106, and amendments thereto, and every such oath or affirmation shall be filed with the city clerk.
