(a)   It shall be unlawful at any time to swim or wade in any portion of the municipally owned lake, known as Sterling Lake.

(b)   It shall be unlawful to go upon the lake at such times as it is frozen over.

(a)   It shall be unlawful for any person to catch and take from Sterling Lake, Sterling, Kansas, fish commonly known as “Black Bass” of a length between 12 to 15 inches. Any person found guilty of the offense may be fined in an amount not to exceed $100.00 or by imprisonment for a period not to exceed three months or by both such fine and imprisonment at the discretion of the municipal court.

(b)   It shall be unlawful for any person to catch and take from Sterling Lake, fish commonly known as a “Wiper” which is a White Bass/Striped Bass hybrid. Once caught, these fish shall be immediately returned to Sterling Lake. Any person found guilty of this offense may be fined in an amount not to exceed $100.00 or by imprisonment for a period not to exceed three months or by both such fine and imprisonment at the discretion of the municipal court.

For purpose of this article, the term boat shall mean non- motorized boats and crafts, with the exception of electric trolling motors. The term vessel or craft shall include row boats, paddleboats, canoes and other non-motorized vessels having a primary construction purpose of boating or other related activities. The term boat, vessel or craft shall exclude surfboards, air mattresses, tubes and rafts.

There is hereby permitted the use of boats, vessels and crafts on Sterling Lake in Sterling, Kansas, subject to the terms and conditions of this article.

Each person occupying a boat, craft or vessel on Sterling Lake shall have available a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket or preserver, buoyant vest, flotation belt or other life saving device as approved by the U.S. Coast Guard. Each person 12 years or under shall be required to wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket buoyant vest, flotation belt or other life saving device as approved by the U.S. Coast Guard.

No person shall operate any boat, craft or vessel in a reckless or negligent manner so as to endanger the life or property of any person. No person shall operate any boat, craft or vessel while under the influence of intoxicating liquors or while under the influence of any narcotic drug, barbiturate or marijuana. No person shall operate any boat, craft or vessel which carries passengers or cargo beyond the safe carrying capacity for such boat, craft or vessel.

No person shall operate or moor any boat, craft or vessel in any swimming area or other non-boating area as marked at the lake.

Children under the age of 12 years must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible person at least 17 years of age.

It shall be unlawful for the operator of any boat, craft or vessel to permit any water skiing, floating, tubing or other activity that takes place outside such boat, craft or vessel.

No person shall throw, discharge or dump any waste, refuse, paper, chemical or any foreign substance or litter into or upon the lake.

There is hereby established the following daily fee for the use and occupancy of each campsite at the Sterling Lake Park at the rate of $20.00 per day.
